Enter WONDO escorting IOCO, LOREL, AERDALUNA, and SERENITY, all
in traveling gear. HORONIMO sits at a table writing.
Welcome to Melinas. Master Lance will see to your horses.
Wait here while I let Lord Prisius know of your arrival.
Thank you, Wondo.
[To others] This keep is very strangely fashioned. From a distance
it looked like it was a collection of children’s blocks placed on
each other. Also, notice perponderance of child’s toys here in the
Clearly these toys haven’t seen use in many years.
It looks like they were well used when they were though.
HORONIMO (approaching the adventurers with an examining eye)
Hmmm. Why dost thou steal my daughter?!
What do you think? Dramatic enough? Perhaps more pathos?
Nevermind, I’ll work that out.
The heros have arrived.
Who are you?
I am called Aerdaluna.
HORONIMO (scribbling in his notes)
And you are an elf, no?
A grey elf.
And you, who might you be?
My name is Serenity.
Ah ha, very dramatic! And you sir, what is your name?
I am Lorel Silverthorn.
You are an elf as well , yes?
What shall I call you?
I am Ioco, son of Peragro.
Peragro, hm, that seems familiar…
These will be most excellent players in our drama.
And who, may I ask, are you? And, what do you know of the recent
I am Horonimo, Lord Prisius nephew. His sister is my mother.
Ah, what can I tell you…
Once upon a time there was a beautiful young girl who grew into a
beautiful young lady.
She and her parents were very happy for many years, ’til tragedy
Her mother died giving birth to a baby brother, who also did not
survive the birth.
The young girl and her father were dispondent for many months.
Eventually, however, her father came up with an idea that started
to cheer the young girl.
He had her redesign the manor to suit her fancy. He gave her free
reign to design as she saw fit.
Over the course of many years, she created “Melina’s Dream” the
manor you are standing in.
She and her father became very close, as Lord Prisius gave Melina
anything she wanted.
The beautiful young woman was soon attracting many suitors.
Though none were to her fancy.
Then, one Jacobius Kranshup appeared and stole the young lady’s
Her father, took this quite literaly. He did not approve of the
Two weeks ago, she announced her engagement at dinner. Silence
from her father.
The next morning she did not show for breakfast. Worried, the
father sent Cora, the
steward to find his sleeping daughter. However, she was nowhere to
be found. A search of the manor
was initiated with no success. All believed her kidnapped by
brigands, until later that afternoon
Jacobius arrived on the scene. The father became suspiscious.
Jacobius was shocked to learn
that his betrothed was missing. He also searched the manor and
surrounding fields, to no avail.
The father had Wondo and his boys search the surrounding country,
but she was nowhere to be found.
Three nights later, the hautings started. Some heard moans and
groans. Some claimed it sounded like the lost miss.
They feared the worst. Things began to move on their own, cups,
dolls, knives. Strange lights appeared in the hallways
and rooms. Some said that it looked like Melina’s face others like
a young boy’s face. The father’s fears increased
and his distrust of Jacobius grew. They could find no cause. He
asked for help.
The hero’s have arrived.
Enter Wondo running and yelling
Come quickly! The Lord!
All Exeunt. Flourish.
ACT I. SCENE II. Melinas. The LORD’S manor. The Main Hall.
Enter the heros, WONDO, and HORONIMO to find LORD PRISIUS lying
on the floor.
As I entered I saw Lord Prisius lying on the floor like this.
Standing over him was some
sort of mummy. It wasn’t a very good mummy though as its skin,
pale and yellow, was showing
through the wrappings, most of which had fallen off. It looked up
as I entered and faded from view.
I looked around to see if it was still here, but could not find
it. I checked on the Lord and then
came to get you.
He appears to be alive still. It seems that he has been struck
over the head with the flat of a blade.
There is a little blood here, but he should recover.
I don’t see any tracks left by the creature.
It probably became incorporeal and escaped.
Ugh, what happened?
Lord, you were attacked, are you well?
My head hurts and my ears ring, but otherwise I am uninjured.
Wondo, who are these strangers?
They are the investigators that the Seer sent to assist you in
locating your daughter, Lord.
Thank the gods you have arrived. I am Lord Prisous, you must help
me locate my daughter. Let me know what I can
do to assist you.
I seem to be missing my letter opener.
What did it look like?
It was a small ornate dagger.
Was there anything special about it?
It had a minor magical enchantment on it. It was one I found in my
younger days in a tomb. Some graverobbers had dropped it and my
companions and I retrieved it. That appears to be the only thing
I will search the grounds and see if I can find any trace of
Lord Prisius, what can you tell us of your missing daughter?
My Lord, I have given them the lay thus far.
My guard, Wondo, is sure that brigands have taken Melina, but we
have received no ransom notes. I think foul play has occurred.
There have been hauntings since my daughters disappearance. I have
no proof, but I belive Jacobius is to blame.
Tell us more about this Jacobius.
He is a minor noble from Verbobonc, who has set his sights on my
daughter and my lands. He claims to be a doctor, but I believe that
he dabbles in necromancy. He appeared the day after my daughter’s
disappearance and has requested that he be allowed to stay until
she is found.
Do you have any other enemies who might have wanted to kidnap or
kill your daughter?
As a noble, I have made many enemies, though none that I think
would stoop to such dishonorable tactics.
Do you mind if we look around for clues?
Feel free. I only ask that you let me accompany you when you
search my room should you do so and that
you knock before entering any of the rooms.
I will go look to the horses and see if I can find anything on
this Jacobius’ horse that might tell us anything about him.
I will assist you.
I think I will investigate the larder and see if I can find some
wine to drug. I will give the drugged wine to
Jacobius during dinner to make him more susiptable to my magicial
charms. Then we will question him.
ACT I. SCENE III. Melinas. The LORD’S manor. The Sitting
Lord Prisius, may I ask you some more questions?
Certainly. I need to tend to some business here, but I will answer
whatever questions I can.
Who was the last person to see Melina on the night that she
That would be me. After dinner, we retired to the sitting room. We
didn’t speak as there was
quite a bit of tension left from the dinner conversation. I
attened to some matters of the management
of the estate, while she knitted. About an hour after dinner, she
went into her chambers and that is
the last I saw of her.
Are these her chambers?
I’m going to take a look if you don’t mind.
Please, I want my daughter back.
ACT I. SCENE IV. Melinas. The LORD’S manor. The Stables.
Enter the IOCO and LOREL to find LANCE shoeing a horse.
Greetings strangers. You must be the investigators. Let me know if
I can be of any assistance to you.
Actually, you could start by telling us who you are.
Name’s Lance Larsha. I’m the Lord’s stable master.
What can you tell us about the Lord’s missing daughter?
Not much that I can say. She disappeared night before her suitor
got her and hasn’t been seen alive since.
Well, there’s been hauntings since just after she disappeared.
But, no clear connection to Melina mind you.
What do you know about her suitor?
Jacobius? Seems like a nice enough fellow. He’s a minor noble from
Verbobonc. Melina and he seemed to be destined to be married. Lord
Prisius though, he don’t like Jacobius.
Hard to say. Maybe he don’t like Jacobius family, maybe he don’t
like the fact that Jacobius would be taking Melina away from the
keep, maybe he knows something none of the rest of us do.
Psst! Want to know a secret?
Its a really good secret and you have to promise not to tell Lord
Prisius or Wondo.
Well, I’d need to tell them if it would help us find Melina, but
otherwise, I won’t tell anyone.
Lady Melina, she was teaching me to read.
You don’t say. Why, that’s a fine secret. Do you know any
Hmm, not that I can tell you.
Ossal! Get away from those two. They have important business to
Sorry about that, my boy sometimes forgets his place. He’s a good
No problem. Mind if we look around.
No problem at all. Let me know if there is anything else I can
help you with.
ACT I. SCENE V. Melinas. The LORD’S manor. The Kitchen.
Enter the AERDALUNA to find CORA and MADAM GRIVA preparing
Excuse me. I was wondering if you have a wine cellar around here
How are you? Oh, you must be one of the Seer’s men sent to help
What do you want with a wine cellar?
Actually, I wanted to examine the wine we will be having with
Examining the wine? What for? Our wine is from good vine, you
needn’t be sticking your nose in it.
Well, I wanted to make sure that it hasn’t been tampered with in
any way to hinder our investigation.
Humph. I suppose it won’t hurt. We don’t have a wine cellar, but
we do have an ice box where tonight’s wine is. It’s over there.
Thank you. Why yes, you are right this is a good wine. And will
Master Jacobius be partaking of this wine?
He and everyone else. Now, if you don’t need anything else, I’ve
got work to do.
This should do for now. Is there someplace quiet I could go to do
The room next over, to the right. Melina’s old doll room, is a
nice quiet place with a table you can put your books on.
Thank you, you have been most helpful.
